Denham Springs, LA
The welcome population explosion that hit the Baton Rouge area following the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2005 is reflected today in the beautifully blossoming community of Denham Springs. The nearby cities of Walker and Central have also shared in the unprecedented growth of the Baton Rouge area. These were formerly bedroom communities to the Capital City, but now operate as cities unto themselves.
In addition to a population surge, Denham Springs has seen a spirited growth in housing and income levels in the past decade. Denham Springs, just a little more than 7 square miles, is an official Louisiana “Tree City,” dotted with parks and home to the popular Spring Park recreation area along River Road. Downtown Denham Springs, with its historic Old City Hall and several blocks of restored architectural gems, is also home to art galleries, boutiques, quaint cafes and popular restaurants.
Because of its proximity to Baton Rouge proper (only 13 miles, a drive of about 30 minutes), Denham Springs is where homebuyers will find the benefits of small town living combined with big city conveniences. Residents whose work takes them to Baton Rouge for government, construction and manufacturing jobs say they are grateful to enjoy their leisure time at home in cities that are a short and safe distance from the capital.
Homebuyers will find an incredible selection of property in the area, where a majority of the population is made of homeowners. New communities of country-club-like houses (some even on golf courses) have recently been created on lush lands that weave the environment of this part of Louisiana into their design. Single-family homes, historic cottages in historic areas, homes near riverfronts, an unusual amount of vacant land suitable for custom construction, and other choices abound.
The original founding of the Denham Springs area was the result of the discovery of soothing, natural springs. Just as the early settlers wished to be close to the healing waters and to Louisiana’s natural greenery and peaceful climate, today’s new residents have come to appreciate similar tranquility, even amidst the booming cultural and economic landscape.
